Dosage will depend on your condition:
Does ursodeoxycholic acid present any special dangers?
UOA is well tolerated and has good safety profile. Medication will be used at the normal dose 13-15 mg/kg/day, and will not be harmful to most approved uses. These may be harmful in people receiving high doses of aciprol (28–30 mg/kg/day) and particularly if you are also suffering from primary sclerosing cholangitis.
Which is the primary indication to use ursodeoxycholic acid?
The best benefit of the medication is that it is used in the treatment of cholestatic liver diseases
At what time of the day should definitive ursodeoxycholic acid be taken – morning or evening?
Evenings’ doses are often prescribed to flush out gallstones. The last dose should be taken at bedtime for twice-daily prescriptions to work best. Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the timing.
What’s the time gap between ursodeoxycholic acid and its effects?
Liver function tests start showing improvements after 3-4 weeks. Dissolving gallstones is a slower process, and may take anywhere from 6 months to 24 months or longer, depending on the size and type of stone.
Is ursodeoxycholic acid good for the liver?
Yes, it is. Medication will help to prevent liver cells being damaged and lower toxic bile acids. There is increased flow of bile through your liver and a decrease in several enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase, AST, ALT and GGT.
What do I do if I forget to take my medicine?
The missed dose should be taken right after it is remembered. Take the missed dose as soon as it is remembered, if the next dose is within 4 hours, or as soon as it can be taken, provided that the missed dose is not followed by a double dose. Taking a double dose won’t help compensate.
What will happen if I overdose?
A lot of the main symptoms of an overdose include diarrhoea. If you think you might have an overdose, call emergency medical staff immediately. Treatment is aimed at symptom control, and correcting fluid balances.
